Nassau County has been on the forefront of burn care in our area since the early 1900's. What started as Meadowbrook Hospital has become the Nassau University Medical Center and houses a 12,000-square-foot burn center that is one of the best staffed, most technologically sophisticated facilities in the United States.

Burn Care Starts in Nassau County

Burn care in Nassau County started in 1948 at the recently begun Meadowbrook Hospital in East Meadow, New York. While the hospital opened in 1935, it wasn't until 1948 that it had its' own dedicated section for burn care.

Dynamic Care Building Opens

In 1974, Nassau County opened the new Dynamic Care Building (DCB), four year after it became the Nassau University Medical Center. The new burn center was located on the 5th floor.
